Work Life

Staying busy. My pal Matt Romy finished his album. And I finished the artwork, and had it printed by In Case of Emergency Press here in Bloomington.
Imagery from the songs, as filtered through this guy.

A video I put together for the Instant Gratification Film Challenge for the prompt "Wild Style".

Hey, I've made posters.

Brief profile of IN poster-makers including yours truly in Nuvo.
Thanks.

couple o' jams

Still busy making posters and such. Helped Jarod, In Case of Emergency Press, install a show of his fine art and our poster work at the Paper Crane Gallery then hawked our goods at the Bloomington Handmade Market this weekend.

Here are two recent movies I made.

My mom stars in this cooking how-to:

Video Posters... Okay, Commercials.

Some ads I made in tandem with posters for the Bishop.
Mostly to play with my new camera that shoots HD video.

The Good News!

My pal, composer Matt Nowlin, is about to release a swingin' LP.
Here's my cover:

I'll post more images when I have the real deal in hand!

HB

Bloomington supergroup Holiday Band released an album recently.
I posted my handy work here. But here's a pic of the cover:
They have a facebook page. Where the sounds can be streamed.
Also made this shirt printed by my new coworker at In Case of Emergency Press:

WIUX Culture Shock 2010 poster

Excellent IU student radio station WIUX, hosts a free festival annually. Here's my poster printed by In Case of Emergency Press. The scale was a bit of a compromise, but we got to use this awesome French patterned paper.

And here's the digitally printed version:

The 2010 KC Urban Film Fest

Here's a draft of a poster.
My good friend and former housemate, Jess Elwood, got me this gig.
He's a talented illustrator/animator/designer. Thanks Jess!

Prizzy Poster(s)

Helped out friends, (& label mates!) Prizzy Prizzy Please, with their Chroma Cannon release poster in April. The top half is basically the album artwork (by Joe Van Wetering).

Bishop Posters

I occasionally get poster requests from Mr. Andy Goheen at the Bishop. He has a number of folks doing poster work, so I typically get thrown some last-minute bones. I'm not complaining!
Lower expectations open up the floor for things I might not typically include on a poster:
I've been taking advantage of the full color printing (all are printed 11x17") to include some photo work, and I get a bit more explorative with the text.
Trying to encourage diversity in visual literacy around Bloomington!
I mean... diversity in poster making. Here are a number of them from the past few months:

- Smedley had the privilege of joining these amazing artists for his cassingle release show.
I even made some doodles for the occasion.
- This is the digital version of the Busman's/Drakkar poster.
In Case of Emergency Press printed the screen-printed (green and orange) version.
I love crudely drawn mopeds.

-A wood-type look was suggested to me for this poster for a roots group, as was the inclusion of their awesome press shot. Check out Hatch Show Print in Nashville, TN, if you haven't!
-Here's another instance of me borrowing: this image is from an R.L. Stine choose your own adventure book. I separated the color channels for a quick spot for the Delicious.

- Both of these posters employ photos from my family vacation to Alaska last summer.
Hey alright! Check out the pattern left in the mud by the Matanuska river.

- This 70's photo shows my uncle Steve holding a cardinal. Something about the composition speaks to me. I had this stocked, waiting for the occasion to use it (quite literally) for a Redbird poster. This was my last chance and I took it.
- My own photo on the right. Light quality, that's what I dig.

-A good example of trying to cultivate a weirder poster scene.
-A two-color poster for the Holiday Band (I'll post album artwork soon!). This will be screened shortly. Bitmapped layers of a book scan and personal hieroglyphics.

More posters for the Bishop

This illustration was shamefully cropped from the back of a vintage recipe discovered tucked away in a blender manual at Bloomington's Curiodrome. Couldn't resist, seemed fitting for Dave's lauded karaoke.

Continued a similar feel with the hand-drawn text for the subsequent poster. This image is a take on a short-lived concept of mine involving google image search roulette. I quite like these headless fish-chauffeurs.

Finally finished work on this amazing comp!

Pit Stop Music Marathon

March, in Bloomington!

bman tour poster

New Busman's Holiday tour poster.
Jarod, In Case Of Emergency Press, is printing them now.

Community Currency, Amo Joy, Mark Galup 2.12

A simple but stately poster for the Romy's new band, Community Currency.
I couldn't resist using this awesome image found in the Library of Congress archive.
I included the text as well. Wild!

site update

I'm working on updating my album artwork imagery.
Posted images of e.p. Hall's "Mommy Crow".
Changed the name of this thing from blog to news,
because blog implies that I'm posting things of interest to the public.
And not just pasting my new imagery... Enjoy!
